History of Jack &
Jill:
Jack
& Jill Nursery school was founded in April of 1954 By Mrs. Dora
Whitright, when she retired in 1996 the school was purchased by Paul
and Marjolaine Lessard. The center has gone through some transitions
to be able to better meet the needs of the community. Jack & Jill
presently serves children ages 6wks.old to 6yrs.old.in three different programs.
Infant, Toddler and Preschool. Our school is licensed by the State of
Connecticut for 30 children. Our school also follows the guide lines
provided by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Jack & Jill is located in a safe and quiet residential area. In the summer
we offer beautiful green landscape and playgrounds shaded by large oak
trees. Easy access to Rte.10, I-84 and I-691. Peck Lane also connects
to Rte.70 and Rte. 322.
Philosophy:
The basic
philosophy of Jack & Jill Childcare & Learning Center is to provide a warm
home like atmosphere where children feel loved and secure. A place where
the child gains in language, in skills through hands on activities which
include music, art, gross motor skills, fine motor skills and other
developmentally appropriate activities. It is a place where children's
basic needs are met in a safe, happy, clean and attractive atmosphere.
Hugs, humor, conversation and positive direction are used to promote active
learning whether in play, large or small groups or individually. We want the
children of Jack & Jill to walk away with positive self esteem. If they feel
good about themselves they can do anything. Adults should serve as
facilitators and not as directors. Our school encourages children to develop
independence and an awareness of their own skills and feelings. Children are
encouraged to make decisions, determine and carry out individual plans. Our
school recognizes and respects the rights and individuality of children and
seeks to provide an environment in which each child can successfully meet
new challenges.
